According to the BBC, Cagatay Sahan and his assistants were held captive under orders from Trabzonspor club president Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu after failing to award his side a late penalty in a 2-2 draw with Gaziantepspor.
And Haciosmanoglu claims he only allowed the officials to leave after a call from the country’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
To make matters worse for the referee, an angry crowd had gathered outside the stadium waiting for him to leave.
The Turkish FA has launched an investigation into the matter.
